Jimmy Kimmel’s prank involved a video of a girl recording herself
while twerking. The video results in disaster: her roommate enters the room,
knocks her over onto a glass coffee table covered in candles and her yoga pants
catch fire. Jimmy Kimmel revealed on his late night talk show that he was
behind the most talked about internet prank today. The video garnered more than
9 million views on YouTube. After watching the original video, I just thought
that twerking had really crossed the line. She could have been seriously hurt.
But the good thing is, the video was just staged and she’s a professional stunt
woman. In my opinion, twerking is just unappealing and inappropriate for
people, especially kids, to do. It’s sad that some parents even record and post
a video of their children twerking. It also makes me embarrassed that I'm in
the same generation as the people doing it. I think that it should not be as
popular as it is now. Hundreds of news outlets fell for the prank. The controversial performance of Miley Cyrus
at the VMA involved twerking. Her performance made her look unprofessional and
distasteful. People who have watched the prank video even tried to blame Miley Cyrus' outrageous twerk-filled VMAs performance for the dangers of
twerking. But Jimmy Kimmel cleared out that the video was filmed 2 months
before Miley’s performance.
I think Jimmy Kimmel made this video to teach us to be wary of
what we find online. Also, he clearly stated in the video that he made this prank
to put an end to twerking. Maybe he was just really sick and tired of seeing
people twerk. However, this prank video will probably just inspire more
trolling and/or people setting themselves on fire for the sake of YouTube
views.
Good point, Bea. I also think that they only published the prank video to make the viewers, especially the youth, aware of what is happening around them, online. The video was really quite surprising because they did it very professionally, fooling around 9 million people who viewed the said video. About the twerking part, I also think that it is very disturbing and inappropriate to post a video like that but Miley Cyrus should not be blamed for that because she is just only doing her job in making the people happy through making music and dancing. Jimmy, on the other hand, really did produce this video to put twerking to its end. On the contrary, his plan didn't really work well, as you said, people got more inspired to do such video like the one they did. To wrap it all up, good point and nice blog!
