The use of the different types of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram has become like breathing to us. Nowadays, we feel like it's necessary to upload what we look like, where we go, and what we do, online. Social media has its advantages. It started as a place to connect with your family and friends in an easy and convenient way. The sharing feature available on the social networks makes your opinion about any topic reach huge number of people. Like most of the people, I also use social media every day. I also share my thoughts and pictures online. However, I limit myself on which information I share for the whole world to see. Often times, we forget that social media also has its drawbacks. In this case, it’s sharing personal information online. In my opinion, we always forget how easy it is for strangers to access our personal information. And Youtuber, Jack Vale, conducted an experiment to prove how much information on people can be obtained from various social media sites.
Imagine being approached by a total stranger who knew your name and some of your personal information. It would definitely freak you out, right? And I would be freaked out too. Jack Vale, decided to search through Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms for posts tagged near his location. He stalked the posters' feeds, called them out in the street, and started spouting information that he had learned about them. Most of the people who appeared in the video saw the hilarity in Jack's experiment. But the other guy was upset and even left a threat, saying he'd call the police, simply because he claimed that Jack 'invaded his privacy', which in my opinion is a foolish thing to say since his information was not actually private and was posted for everyone to see. Jack Vale's experiment brings to light a more serious point about what we reveal online through social media. Most don’t think about the fact that anyone can view the information and potentially use it for other purposes, while others simply are not concerned or bothered by it.
